There are many different styles of guitar that you can learn. One of the most interesting styles, and my personal favorite, is learning how to play slide guitar. Not only does this produce a beautiful sound but it is very unique among all the different guitar styles. It is used in a variety of music as well, from country to blues to rock 'n roll. Once you know how to play slide guitar, a whole new world of music will open up to you.
The slide guitar is played by using a tube that is pressed lightly against the strings to produce a unique sound. This tube is typically known as a bottleneck because of the fact that when the slide guitar was first played, they did use a bottleneck to touch the strings. The player sits with a guitar held in a normal position and the bottleneck on one finger placed slightly against the strings so that it can be slid up and down the strings to create the different sounds. There are some unique things about the slide guitar that anyone who would like to learn how to play slide guitar should learn.
In the first place, learning how to play slide guitar is not like learning how to play the regular guitar. Even though you can use a regular guitar to play it, you do not press the strings down as though they were going to touch the frets. If you do this, you simply create a buzzing sound that is very unpleasant to listen to. The slide guitar is not limited to the particular notes that a regular guitar is limited to either. By sliding the bottleneck up and down the strings, you will be able to create a limitless number of notes and you can transition from note to note without lifting your bottleneck.
Even though it may take some practice, you can learn how to play slide guitar even easier then you can learn how to play regular guitar. As with anything, you will get better with practice and you can improve on this craft throughout your lifetime. Learning how to play slide guitar is a great step into a world of music that not many people enter.
